A Real Customer Experience
Our technician Mickey Kuhn arrived at a customer’s home for a scheduled repair. His goal was to ensure the chimney was protected and built to last. The homeowner had an aging concrete crown that was beginning to break down, and Mickey knew that if it wasn’t addressed, water could penetrate the structure and cause serious damage over time.
Mickey began by carefully removing the old, deteriorated crown. Once it was taken off, he cleaned and prepared the top of the chimney so the new materials would bond properly. He then installed a brand-new concrete crown, crafted to shed water efficiently and shield the masonry below. This single improvement went a long way in protecting the chimney from leaks, cracking, and further deterioration.
While working at the top of the chimney, Mickey also identified the need for a flue tile extension. Without the proper height and alignment, draft issues and safety concerns can arise. He installed the extension to ensure the flue lined up correctly and vented properly, improving performance and reducing the risk of smoke or gases entering the home.
At the end of the job, the customer knew exactly what had been completed and why it mattered. Thanks to Mickey’s attention to detail and workmanship, their chimney was no longer vulnerable to moisture intrusion, and the flue system was set up for safer, more efficient use.
A Real Customer Experience
When our tech Pat Malone arrived for a scheduled chimney sweep and inspection for one of our customers, his priority was clear – keeping the customer’s home as safe as possible. After carefully cleaning and examining the wood stove and chimney system, Pat identified an important concern: the stove did not meet proper clearance requirements on the floor. Without additional floor protection, it posed a risk and could not be safely used.
Rather than leaving the customer uncertain, Pat explained the issue clearly and provided a detailed proposal for the necessary repairs. His recommendation was straightforward: do not use the stove until the corrections are made. This advice, while cautious, was given with the customer’s safety in mind.
The good news was that, aside from the clearance issue, the rest of the chimney system was in satisfactory condition. To add an extra layer of protection and improve the system’s performance, Pat also suggested installing a stainless steel chimney cap with a critter guard and spark arrestor. This small addition would help prevent unwanted animals, block moisture, and reduce fire hazards.
At the end of the visit, the customer had a clear understanding of the condition of their chimney and wood stove, a plan for necessary improvements, and the peace of mind that their safety was always the top priority.
